What to Do About Waking Up with that Low Energy, Status Quo Feeling

How do you wake up every day?

Do you wake up tired, dragging your feet out of the bed because you stayed up late watching reality TV shows?

Do you wake up thinking, “ugh, here we go again?”

Is this how you imagine yourself waking up for the rest of your life and think, ” there’s no way. Something has to change?”

So, how do you change it?

Laughter: Kick Off Your New Year with Awesomesauce

This past weekend, I met Haywood Smith, bestselling author of The Red Hat Club and many more books, at a local writer’s meeting. She spoke about the blessings she’s experienced as a writer. I was so entertained by the way that she tied in her once painful stories into humor. Her stories kept us all laughing throughout her speech.

Hearing Haywood Smith’s humorous recollection her stories were a great way to start the year.

My friend, Tabi Eberhardt, also known as Iwear Hoodies on Facebook, shared with me a funny song she rewrote from REM’s “It’s the End of the World” song that I believe speaks volumes about laughter, being in the moment and enjoying life. That’s what I want more of this year. How about you? [Read more...]

Even Slow to Grow Butterflies Eventually Get Their Wings

‘Cause we all have wings

But some of us don’t know why

- INXS, “Never Tear Us Apart”

If you’ve felt like you’ve been constrained and trapped inside a box, unable to take off the runway, and stuck, I want you to know that even slow to grow butterflies eventually get their wings ’cause we all have wings. This is part of my story on how I realized I had finally developed my wings and how choosing a word for the upcoming year can help you with your wings or whatever you’re experiencing…

Flying over Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont during the middle of winter captivated me. As I leaned over the man who sat in the coveted window seat, I could see the lake’s frozen cracks and crevasses form a pattern on the ice. As I gazed on, I knew I was entering a different world.

During that year in 2005, I was attending Burlington College’s Orientation for new and returning students. The flight marked my first low residency to finish working on my bachelor’s degree.

There were students from around the world who came to the college. We were all on the path together, putting one foot in front of the other on this journey towards our dreams. I was on the path to writing and teaching about God. I wanted to write kids stories, adult stories, movies, and songs and create animated cartoons.

During the meeting with Genevieve, an English teacher, I was given a prophecy about my path. I dismissed it at the time. She met with a group of us to discuss the boring topic of research papers and decided to liven the event by pulling out a deck of cards.

These cards, she said, were given to her by a student. The cards were special because the student who gave them to her died about a year or sooner after he gifted her the cards, being in his early twenties when he passed away .

On the cards were various animals and insects that represented the card puller’s journey. She had brought the cards as a part of her tradition when meeting new students. [Read more...]

Life is our playground

God has truly set up our world to be a playground. When things aren’t going your way, sure you have troubles and burdens, or you may be experiencing heartache, but doesn’t everybody at some point.

Even in the rough times, those glimpses and moments of hope are reminders on your path that things will not always be that way.

I know because I’ve been where you are. I still have burdens and things I have to work through, but everyone who is still here on earth has something we are going through otherwise we wouldn’t be here.

What I want to help you see today, is to inspire you to create more moments of play and indulgence in things that uplift your spirits. It’s in creating more of these moments and letting them linger that you will shift your mood to happiness and joy even in the darkest times.

Let me share with you how my daughters and I played this past weekend.

Ways That Visions of God Are Confirmed

Visions of God ConfirmedRecently, I was reminded that things happen in their own time. Even though we may want something to happen sooner, most everything has its own process.

Take healing for example. If I stub my toe, the pain may take only a few seconds for it to go away. If I nick my finger with a knife, however, there is more involved in the process of healing.

The cut may run a few layers deep into the skin and need a day to a week for complete healing. There’s also extra items needed to heal a cut compared to stubbing my toe. I may need some Neosporin, a bandage, and stitches if the cut went deep enough to warrant a trip to the hospital.

The two processes are very different and so God has set our bodies up to heal each within a certain amount of time. One takes considerable less time compared to the other.

In regards to emotional healing, we each have our own timing that we heal from things we’ve experienced. If you’ve been through a divorce, then you may feel it is right for you to go out right away and meet new people. Perhaps you feel you are not ready and want to wait.

In my own timing, I went out right away until I decided that I was going to wait on God. When I went out looking, I realized that I was trying to force God’s hand to bring me someone when truly I was not ready. [Read more...]

How I Found a Way to Heal and Discover Who I Am (and how you can too)

During my 11th year on this planet, I moved from Metairie, Louisiana to Conyers, Georgia. I was not happy.

From my outward appearance, I smiled, nodded, still used my manners, but inside I was confused.

Why were we moving here?

Why did we have to leave family?

I had so many friends there. Why? Why? Why?

I was also mad. My mom showed me around the new house with carpeted floors, my own room, a large front and backyard.

“It’s on the highest point in the neighborhood,” Mom said.

I think I may have rolled my eyes at this.

“You have all your stuff in your room already,” Mom said.

“Great,” I said.

But inside, I didn’t feel so great. I felt out of sorts, like I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I wasn’t feeling too happy about the move. In fact, it made me feel angry…

… and that was when I discovered something that helped with that feeling. [Read more...]

Would You Consciously Choose Walking On Eggshells Compared To Freedom?

Do I go? Do I not go? The thoughts pounded in my head as I opened the car door, wondering whether to get in or slam it shut and walk back into the house.

I stood on the pavement of the driveway, feeling the eyes of my neighbors, but focusing on the blue car door in front of me. Thoughts of cleaning out the garage so I could pull the car in there floated through my mind.

The sun beat down on my face even though I scowled and hid from it as I put my arm on top of the door and leaned my head on my hand.

I committed to go, I thought.

I knew that if I didn’t get in the car and go, I would agonize over my decision. I would sob all day because I felt like I was denying the one thing I ever wanted in this lifetime.

It felt like my world was ripping apart seam by seam. [Read more...]
