In honor of Mothers Day, I wanted to write a post about daydreaming and using a vision process to get in touch with the dreams God gave you.
Have you ever had a dream that was so real you thought you could walk right into it? Do you get flash visions of it? Do you envision it during moments of daydreaming?
Have you been taking the time to daydream and envision?
Let’s first say that if anyone told you to stop daydreaming when you were a child, you can ignore them. You’re an adult now and it’s perfectly fine for you to daydream. In fact, it’s encouraged!
This is part of a process that can help you step into the life you want. And it’s powerful!
God gives us dreams for a reason. Whenever you’re feeling anxious about an upcoming class you’re teaching, an article that you’re having published, or even just throughout your day, you can use envisioning to help ease your stress in a variety of ways.
What Envisioning Does For Us
Taking time to daydream about the future eases your anxiety by stepping into the final outcome. In goal setting, knowing the outcome that you want clarifies your intentions. Just like in prayer, when you say exactly what you want, you’re more likely to get a positive answer.
So by visioning your outcome, you put your clear intention before God, the Universe, and all above to say, “this is what I want.”
Getting Past That Stuck Feeling
If you find yourself stuck in the “I can’t” mode, then picturing the outcome will help you move past those limiting feelings into a mode where you’re able to see how much you help others.
According to a study by the University of British Columbia, daydreaming actually helps us solve our most pressing problems.
I’ve found that using daydreaming in meditation helps to connect with “mentors” to solve problems. For instance, if I have a problem with x,y,z, I start meditating and call on Deepak Chopra to help me by envisioning that I’m talking with him about it.
How to Use Envisioning To Help You
I believe that we already have the answers we seek inside of us.
There’s two things you can do to use your daydreams to maximize this communication with God to help you in all areas of your life.
Using a vision process will help you bring those answers out and set goals to work towards them.
Here’s what you do:
1. Go someplace in your house or outside that’s quiet. Someplace where you won’t be bothered by anyone.
2. Close your eyes.
3. Focus on your breath, breathing in and out for 3-4 counts.
4. Let whatever comes, whether it’s thoughts or visions, pass over you and not try to hold onto them.
5. Imagine the situation you’re in right now, feel the feelings around it. Now imagine the outcome that you’d like to see happening.
If you’re getting ready to run a race, imagine crossing the finish line. How does that feel?
If you’re giving a speech, imagine the audience clapping at the end and greeting you when you come down from the stage or later in the program.
If you’re going on a date, imagine the end of it where your date is smiling and asking if he/she can call you soon.
Whatever your dream is or whatever you have coming up, picture the outcome. All the stuff in between will work out. All you have to do is focus on the outcome you want to see.
