Laughter: Kick Off Your New Year with Awesomesauce

This past weekend, I met Haywood Smith, bestselling author of The Red Hat Club and many more books, at a local writer’s meeting. She spoke about the blessings she’s experienced as a writer. I was so entertained by the way that she tied in her once painful stories into humor. Her stories kept us all laughing throughout her speech.

Hearing Haywood Smith’s humorous recollection her stories were a great way to start the year.

My friend, Tabi Eberhardt, also known as Iwear Hoodies on Facebook, shared with me a funny song she rewrote from REM’s “It’s the End of the World” song that I believe speaks volumes about laughter, being in the moment and enjoying life. That’s what I want more of this year. How about you?

This is a guest post by my long-time friend, Tabi Eberhardt. She’s also a teacher, BFA grad in Art Education, very funny, married to her soulmate and loves hoodies. Who would’ve guessed?

So, I decided to re-write a song for my story:

Woo-freakin’-hoo (with a side of awesomeness!)

That’s great, it starts with a concert, carnival & masquerade, a FESTIVAL! -
Drew Emmitt is not afraid. Auld Lang Syne , listen to yourself sing -
friends serve each others needs, regardless of their own needs. Booty shakin’ fun,
dance, sleep no, cry no. Hornings hideout chatter with no fear of birds,
peacocks. Performance of fire, represent the duality of man
near Oregon’s Coast. Left the job that held me down and breathed down my neck. Team my team did pretty well, go, bulldogs,
woof. Look at that garden grow! Kale Chips. Uh oh, overflow,
vegetation,
share with others, but eat some too. Save yourself, serve yourself. Do what you need,
to mend a heart that bleeds. Tell me that Falcons win and holds down the right – right. You Atlantans are feeling pretty psyched.

It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o’clock – no TV here. Guess we can live no beer. Still dancin’,
romancin’, listen to your insides churn. New life formin’ and its exciting,
house buying. Every night a trance. Hallucination incubation. Chocolate bunnies,
small kittens. Step up, step up. Watch a husband cook, cook. Uh oh,
this means no fear – cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament,
a tournament, a tournament of fun. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
and I abide.

It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I had feast of dinner at my house. Mound of grub.
Heather & Japna. Michael McCutcheon, Noam too and James Allen.
Christmas party, gravy, casseroles, boom! You symbiotic, kindred cohort,
you’re great, right? Right.

It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it.
It’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine…fine…

(Let’s do it again next year.)
